Every year, the long school vacation provides children with opportunities for rest, recreation, and personal development. However, in many rural communities, the absence of structured educational and recreational programmes during this period increases children's vulnerability to various forms of exploitation and abuse.
Many children have limited access to organised holiday activities and therefore become more susceptible to harmful influences, including exploitative child labour, street hawking, domestic abuse, harmful peer pressure, substance abuse, online exploitation, and recruitment into criminal activities. These conditions can negatively affect their physical, emotional, moral, and educational development.
Recognising these challenges, Keep Life Safe Foundation is organising August Activities 2026, a child vulnerability prevention programme inspired by the charism of Saint Aloysius Guanella. The programme seeks to provide children with a safe, structured, and enriching environment where they can develop positive values, life skills, and healthy relationships while reducing their vulnerability to exploitation, abuse, trafficking, and other harmful influences.
Objectives
The programme aims to:
• reduce children's vulnerability to exploitation, abuse, trafficking, and other harmful influences during the long school vacation;
• provide a safe, structured, and child-friendly environment for learning and recreation;
• promote moral values, discipline, teamwork, and respect for others;
• strengthen children's resilience, self-esteem, and decision-making skills;
• encourage healthy social interaction through educational, cultural, sporting, and recreational activities; and
• foster greater awareness of personal safety and child protection.
Programme Structure
The programme will involve 60 children supported by 10 educators and facilitators. Participants will be organised into three groups, each comprising 20 children under the supervision of trained educators to ensure effective learning, mentoring, participation, and safeguarding.
The daily activities will include educational sessions, value formation, creative arts, sports, games, leadership development, cultural activities, teamwork, child safeguarding education, and other interactive programmes designed to promote the holistic development and well-being of every participant.
